WNMU Receives Grant for Nursing Program

Silver City – Good news for area nurses looking to continue their education.

The Department of Nursing at Western New Mexico University has been awarded a national three-year grant to help fund its RN-to-BSN program.

The program allows current registered nurses with an associate's degree the flexibility to earn a bachelor's degree.

To avoid pulling nurses from the workforce, the grant will be used to migrate all classes in the BSN program to an online format and to create new ways to personalize courses for full-time working nurses.

The federal grant will provide about a quarter of a million dollars each year for the next three academic years.

This year's monies will be used to increase the number of students in WNMU's RN-to-BSN program and help raise the graduation rate.
