Weekend Patrols Net More Than 500 Traffic Tickets

Las Cruces – An increased number of DWI checkpoints and saturation patrols over the Thanksgiving weekend netted the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department ten DWI arrests and more than 500 traffic citations.

The arrests were made county-wide between Thanksgiving Day and Nov. 27, 2011. During that same time period, 501 traffic citations were issued to drivers for various offenses.

Anti-DWI saturation patrols will continue through December, according to the department, in an effort to reduce DWI-related crashes, injuries and deaths that could result from intoxicated drivers who choose to get behind the wheel.

Checkpoints are held in various undisclosed locations throughout Dona Ana County between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m. During that time, deputies are on the lookout for all types of violations with an emphasis on intoxicated drivers.
