Science Program to Expand

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A grant will help New Mexico State University expand a special program for area K-through-12 students

The Southern New Mexico Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy will be able to expand thanks to a $157 thousand dollar grant from the Toyota USA Foundation.

The academy is one of just 12 organizations around the country to receive part of Toyota's $3.3 million dollars given to support K-12 math and science education.

The grant will allow more service for kindergarten through third grade students.

The academy offers three after-school sessions during the academic year and week-long summer programs for K-12 students.

It's designed to encourage normally underrepresented groups through hands-on science activities.

The program works with 34 schools in the Gadsden and Las Cruces school districts.
