NMSU Rodeo Still On Top In Regional Competition

The New Mexico State University rodeo team continues to lead the pack in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s Grand Canyon Region, picking up another win in Tucson.

“Coming down to the wire, with only three rodeos to go, there are going to be some exciting races in some events,” NMSU rodeo Coach Jim Brown said. “I am confident that our NMSU rodeo athletes will shine in these races.”

The Aggie men’s rodeo team earned first place by gaining 100 points over the competition at the University of Arizona, Saturday, March 22.

“I am also very proud of the men’s team, as we have swept every rodeo thus far,” Brown said. “That’s sure to be some kind of record!”

Ethan Shelley of NMSU received the All-Around title for excellence in the arena.

Riders to take first place were Meghan Johnson in barrel racing, Connor Hall for tie-down, and Ethan Shelley and Tyke Kipp for steer wrestling.

The next rodeo will be April 4-5 in Window Rock, Ariz.
