"Night At The UN" Coming To NMSU Las Cruces March 7

About the Event:

Every year, the Model UN team hosts a special event that culminates our many months of hard work. It is our desire to create an event that appeals to the public-at-large, as well as coincides with the topics we have been studying and researching extensively since the fall. It is our great honor to announce that our annual Night at the UN event will be held on March  7th. This year we have changed the event considerably to something we truly believe will be informative and fun.

Our Night at the UN will begin at 5:30 with a special talk by Dr. Jorge A. Bustamante, who formerly served as the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants for the United Nations. He will be talking about border regions, highlighting the similarities between the borders of Morocco and Mexico. This portion of the event will be free and is open to all who are interested in hearing this talk. The talk will be held at the Health and Social Services Auditorium. Following the talk, there will be a reception at the Stan Fulton 3rd floor bistro.

Tickets to the reception are $40 for non-students and $15 for students. Tickets can be purchased here!

About our Speaker:

Dr. Bustamante was the founder and first President of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, the prominent Mexican institute for the study of border issues. He is the author of more than 200 scholarly publications on the Sociology of the border region between the United States and Mexico and Central American immigrants to the United States. Dr. Bustamante is a leading participant in international scholarly networks dealing with these themes and has played a major role in building and sustaining scholarly linkages between Mexico and the United States.

He was the recipient of the 2007 Cox-Johnson-Frazier Award. This is the highest award granted by the American Sociological Association. He continues being a faculty member of the University of Notre Dame.
