New Fire Burning In NM Southwest Of Cimmarron

There's another wildfire burning in New Mexico now.

State Forestry officials say the White Peak's fire has charred an estimated 850 acres about 14 miles southwest of Cimarron.

The lightning-caused fire began Thursday morning and is burning ponderosa pine and mixed conifer on state and private land.

It's in a remote area some three miles south of the Philmont Scout Ranch Border.

Authorities say the fire is zero percent contained.

Four air tankers are making retardant drops to slow the spread of the flames and about 60 firefighters are on the ground right now.

Three unoccupied structures southeast of the fire currently are threatened along with one outbuilding about a mile north of the fire.

Forestry officials say there's no need for any evacuations.
