Grant Will Pay For Advanced Placement Tests

New Mexico – A federal grant awarded to the New Mexico Department of Public Education will help low-income students defray the costs of Advanced Placement tests.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman announced the grant from the federal Education Department on Monday. The New Mexico Democrat says the grant will allow students to participate in AP exams even if their families cannot afford the test fees.

The grant is worth nearly $120,000.

Bingaman says Advanced Placement helps ensure students get a rigorous education that prepares them for college or high-skill work.
