Eight Candidates File For Election

Las Cruces – A total of eight candidates have filed petitions to have their names placed on the ballot for the four municipal offices up for election on November 3rd. Today was the only day to file.

The four municipal offices to be decided on the November ballot are council districts 3, 5 and 6 and municipal judge.

Filing for district 3 is Incumbent City Councillor and current Mayor Pro-Tem Dolores C. Archuleta who is seeking re-election. She will face off against Olga Pedroza.

Incumbent district 5 City Councillor Gil Jones is seeking re-election. He will face off against Gill M. Sorg and Christopher A. Micklevitz.

District 6 Incumbent City Councillor Sharon K. Thomas is seeking re-election. She will face off against James W. Harbison.

Incumbent Municipal Judge James T. Locatelli, seeking re-election, is unopposed.

On Tuesday, September 29th, City Clerk Esther Martinez will certify those candidates who qualify by meeting the required number of valid signatures, and candidates will draw for ballot position.

Absentee voting on paper ballots begins on Wednesday, October 7th, followed by absentee voting in person on October 14th.

Twenty-five valid signatures are required to seek a district council seat. Candidates for municipal judge must be currently licensed to practice law in New Mexico. An elected judge must also be a member of the New Mexico State Bar and a copy of the candidate's standing with the New Mexico State Bar is required.
