Border Patrol Arrests Convicted Murderer In Santa Teresa

SANTA TERESA, N.M. – Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station arrested a man Friday who was previously convicted of murder in Illinois.

Border Patrol Agents from Santa Teresa, New Mexico, were conducting patrol duties Friday at 1 a.m.when they located two individuals that had just entered the United States illegally. One of the persons arrested was identified as 31-year-old Hector Cobos Gomez, a citizen of Mexico. While at the station processing center, Gomez’ finger prints and biographical information were submitted into Integrated, Automated, Fingerprint Identification System—IAFIS for records checks. It was revealed Gomez had an extensive criminal history, including Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Firearm and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Further investigation revealed that Gomez had also been previously deported from the U.S.

Gomez was booked into the Otero County Prison Facility for his illegal re-entry into the U.S. and is awaiting possible prosecution and subsequent removal back to his country of origin.
