Bids Expected For El Paso County Toll Roads

KRWG News – EL PASO, Texas (krwg) Bidding is expected to begin next month on what state officials say will be the first toll roads in El Paso County.

The $80 million project is planned for the Cesar Chavez Border Highway,

Texas Transportation Commissioner Ted Houghton said Thursday that the project tentatively is going to bid April 6.

The El Paso Times reports the work involves adding toll lanes and reconstruction of the four existing lanes, about 8.7 miles from U.S. 54 to Zaragoza Road.

More than $6 million in federal funds will help pay for the state-led project. No toll price has been set yet for the electronic system, meaning no booths or baskets for coins.

The El Paso County toll road will be part of the TxTag system used in other parts of the state.
