Audit: Texas Could Do More To Prevent Cheating

A U.S. Department of Education audit of the Texas Education Agency's efforts to police cheating on standardized tests has found the state agency could do more.

TEA was evaluated as part of a nationwide audit. The report on that broader evaluation has not been released, but the look into TEA was sent to its commissioner in late September.

Among the audit's findings were that TEA did not use analysis of test results or test erasures to select school districts or schools to monitor. Instead, the audit found that the agency relies on local school districts to police themselves.

The TEA responded in the report that it agreed with the findings and had already implemented or was in the process of implementing the recommendations.
