The body the of a missing elderly man found Thursday

Las Cruces, NM – The body of Brayton Smoot, missing since June third, was found Thursday in an undeveloped area of Las Cruces.

The 77 year old man, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, disappeared from his home at the Golden Mesa Retirement Community.

In hopes of finding him, Smoot's family had offered a five thousand dollar reward. Yesterday evening, family members were given the news of his death, after a fifteen year old girl spotted the man's body lying beneath a bush.

Cleanin the Rio

Las Cruces, NM – A group of area residents, tired of seeing loads of trash in and around the Rio Grande, is spending most of tomorrow cleaning it up.

It's the second time the group spends several hours, armed with bags and supplies, removing tires and trash in an effort to save the Rio.

Phillip partridge is the founder of RiGo, which stands for individual owners of the Rio Grande.

Fort Sill Apache Chairman plans to Challenge Gaming Commission Ruling

Flood Management Community Meeting

Las Cruces – Dona Ana County will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed Moongate Stormwater Diversion Channel west of Moongate Road.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, in the Onate High School Cafeteria at 5700 Mesa Grande Dr., with representatives from the Dona Ana County Flood Commission and Public Works Department as facilitators.

Las Cruces, NM – Dona Ana County's website is among the best in the country, according to a recent survey.

The Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties named Dona Ana County's website second nationwide among counties with populations under 250, 000.

The Digital Counties Survey recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly government websites.

Cousins Arrested for Breaking an entry looking for Chips and Soda

Las Cruces, NM – Two Las Cruces residents were arrested Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a city building looking for a junk food fix.

According to Las Cruces Police officials, Jose Mejia Jr., 20, and his cousin, Mark Ramirez, 16, broke a window and snuck into the Benavidez Community Center early in the morning.

Police officers quickly responded and foiled their plan which the cousins' told detectives was to take chips and soda from the center's vending machines.
