February 15, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with Network Volunteer Center Volunteer Coordinator, Genevieve Kirk, and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Volunteer at the Munson Senior Center, Allan Daily. They have both served in the Peace Corps and will tell us about the importance of volunteering, opportunities and the commitment to serve in our communities.

February 8, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with three times Native American Music Award Winner, recording artist, composer and drum maker, Yolanda Martinez. She has been making drums since 1987 and made her first recording in 1992. Carlsbad native, Martinez received her first NAMMY, The Grammy for The Native American Music Industry, in 2005 as Best Female Artist. Her music consists of drumming and chanting, contemporary Native American, country, Latin and folk recordings.

Las Cruces, NM  – February 1, 2013 – On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with Performer and Educational Consultant, Rosa Guerrero, from El Paso, Texas bridging the community as an artist, educator, dance historian, and humanitarian. In 1970 she established El Paso’s first ballet folklorico group, The Rosa Guerrero International Folklorico Dance Group.

January 10, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with local professional artists, Carolyn Bunch and her son, Tony Pennock. They both recall painting murals as children, and have made it their life’s work.

Bunch moved to New Mexico in the 1950’s, and has been involved in the arts as a public school teacher, an artist and gallery owner of Adobe Patio Gallery. She is currently one of fifteen artists featured at an exhibition at the Adobe Patio Gallery in Mesilla.

January 4, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with Border/Environmental Justice Liaison for the New Mexico Environment Department, Thomas Ruiz. He will talk to us about a global chronic disease of the central nervous system, Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The National MS Society has been walking since 1988 to help create a world free of MS. To register and to help the Las Cruces Chapter visit their website at “main.nationalmssociety.org.”  Walk MS: Las Cruces will be held at Young Park on Saturday, April 6th starting at 9 a.m.

Court Youth Center offers a wide range of after-school, weekend and summer programs in arts production, arts integration, and arts as business, public arts and arts in education. Youth increase their creative learning process, their academic performance, problem solving and group interaction skills in order to internalize responsible decision making and gain a sense of community by incorporating the creative learning process in all aspects of their lives.

This week on Fronteras we present our monthly segment, "That’s What I’m Talking About." The goal of “That’s What I’m Talking About” is to talk to your friends and neighbors to find out what they are talking about in their community. 

This week, Edmundo Resendez talks with Steve Chavira owner of Success Inc. and Managing Director of Building Industry Association of Southern New Mexico and Kathleen Murphy owner of Wild Horse Design and Driftwood Productions. The topic: Motivation.  

That’s What I’m Talking About is a Fronteras segment hosted by Edmundo Resendez. The goal of That’s What I’m Talking About is to talk to your friends and neighbors to find out what they are talking about in the community. The topics can range from politics to everyday life. Today, the topic is, What Inspires You? Edmundo Resendez sat down with a comedy group from Las Cruces to learn what inspires them to do their comedy far away from the bright lights of Los Angeles or New York. 

 Local educator, Jorge Guevara talks to Carlos Correa about education around the globe and its comparison to how children are learning around the state. 

NMSU librarian and Professor Molloy Molloy has made it her mission to gather and file information and numbers from local newspaper reports on the daily count of murders in Juarez. She has created what is called the Frontera List- a detailed record of the victims including their name, age, gender and where they were killed. She is also the co-editor of the book “El Sicario, The Autobiography of a Mexican Assassin,” which is being reviewed next week by the Branigan Library and the Fountain theater is showing a movie based on the book as well.  

The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico works to maintain and advance the cause of civil liberties across the state. The ACLU Regional Center for Border Rights in Las Cruces focuses on immigrant rights and addresses civil and human rights violations that stem from border related immigration policies. The organizations director Vicki Gaubeca joins us  in the studio to talk about their work and a national civil rights campaign.  

Mujer a Mujer is a domestic violence shelter in Ciudad Juarez that aims to protect and educate women on their human and legal rights in Mexico. An upcoming fundraiser in Las Cruces will help fund the shelter which has been struggling due to the violence in Juarez. Fundraider coordinator Patricia Hernandez joins us  in the studio.
