Woman Allegedly Raped after Being Drugged

By KRWG News

Las Cruces, NM – Dona Ana County Sheriff's Investigators are looking for a man who allegedly raped a woman after slipping something into her drink.

A woman, 20, told investigators that Robert Rountree, 33, of Mesilla Park, gave her some sort of medication causing her to pass out.

She allegedly woke up to find Rountree having sexual intercourse with her and had to struggle to get away from him.

After searching Rountree's residence, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for the man, believed to be hiding in the area.

Dona Ana County Sheriff's investigator John Palmer is asking anyone with information regarding Rountree's whereabouts to contact central dispatch at 575.526.0795.

In an attempt to prevent similar crimes, Palmer is also urging women to always be aware of their surroundings.

"Of course be with people they know, people they can trust. If they're in a place like that, they're actually afraid of something happening to be aware of where their drinks are at; best way to do that is to maintain possession of your drink and keep it around where they know what's happening."

Rountree faces criminal sexual penetration charges. Investigators say he may be driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero with New Mexico license plate KXE-749.
