Winter Weather Advisory

UPDATE: WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM FRIDAY... LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL ACROSS THE LOWLANDS OF LUNA... DONA ANA...AND WESTERN OTERO COUNTIES. ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW ARE LIKELY MAINLY OVER THE SOUTHERN AND SOUTHEAST PORTIONS OF THE COUNTIES. SOME ISOLATED AREAS OF HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY OVER EAST SLOPE LOCATIONS. 3 TO 6 INCHES POSSIBLE IN EL PASO.

* TIMING: SNOWFALL WILL BEGIN THIS MORNING AND LAST INTERMITTENTLY THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.

* IMPACT: HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA WITH REDUCED VISIBILITIES IN FALLING SNOW AND AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW. ROAD SURFACES WILL BECOME LOCALLY DANGEROUS PACKED WITH SNOW AND ICE.

* WINDS: EAST WINDS 10 TO 20 MPH ON THURSDAY MORNING WITH THE BACKDOOR COLD FRONT. LOCAL GUSTS TO 30 MPH AT TIMES ON WEST SLOPES AND THROUGH PASSES. WINDS LESSENING TO 5 TO 15 MPH BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

* SNOW LEVELS: WITH COLD AIR IN PLACE ALL ELEVATIONS...INCLUDING THE LOWLANDS...WILL SEE SNOW. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW...SLEET...OR FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
