What's Fun About 5? Mud And Gummy Worms

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

This week, TELL ME MORE is celebrating our fifth anniversary on the air. Turning 5 has been pretty special to us; so special, in fact, that we decided to celebrate our birthday with 5-year-olds. We reached out to you on Facebook, to see what some of our 5-year-old listeners had to say about this magic number.

We received hundreds of responses and yesterday, when we caught up with this young gentleman, he was 5. But as he is about to explain, today is very special for him.

HEZEKIAH JEFFERSON-GLIPA: Hi. My name is Hezekiah and today, I am 6-year-old. When I'm 6-year-old, I get to have my party. I jumped in a pond and I ate gummies, and I threw mud at each other and opened presents; got a lot of Beyblades.

HEZEKIAH: Being 5 is pretty special, too, because I get to play games on the computer and watch videos, especially when I was in the old house because I gotted(ph) to go on "PBS Kids" and watch Elmo - and Diego, I think?

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

HEZEKIAH: Happy birthday to me because I'm going to have great mud party, and dip my head in the mud!

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

HEZEKIAH: Happy birthday, TELL ME MORE. Bye-bye.

MARTIN: That was Hezekiah Jefferson-Glipa of Corona, California, celebrating his sixth birthday with us. Happy birthday, Hezekiah. You've given us something to look forward to - and I just might have to think about that mud party for next year, when the program turns 6.

We'll be hearing more from some of our youngest listeners from across the country all this week, as we celebrate our first five years on the air. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
