UPDATE: New Mexico Gun Shop Raid Trial Going To The Jury

The family that owns a Deming gun store knowingly ignored their responsibilities by repeatedly selling guns and ammunition to a man who told them the arms were bound for Mexican drug cartels. That's what prosecutors argued Tuesday in wrapping up their case against the Reese family, owners of New Deal Shooting Sports in Deming.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Jordan told jurors the trial "boils down to rights and responsibilities." He said the "defendants have the right to make money selling guns ... but they have no right to arm cartels."

On Monday, Rick Reese told the court the cartel associate-turned-informant in the case had talked about sending arms to Mexico, but he didn't take him seriously.

The defense will present closing arguments Tuesday afternoon, then send the case to the jury.
