UPDATE: Hit And Run Death In Las Cruces

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police have received additional information on Wednesday evening's fatal hit-and-run crash and now believe the vehicle involved was a white 2002 Chevy Venture minivan.

Police had originally believed the vehicle may be a white pickup but evidence from the scene indicates the vehicle was a 2002 Chevy Venture minivan. The crash on Valley Drive claimed the life of a 58-year-old bicyclist.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, Las Cruces Police were called to the southbound lanes of Valley Drive, between Hadley Avenue and Amador Avenue, where a man was unconscious and bleeding profusely after being struck by a vehicle.

The victim was initially transported to Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces and then airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso in critical condition. He was pronounced dead early this morning.

The identity of the victim is not being released until next of kin can be notified.

Traffic investigators believe the victim was bicycling near the outside lane of Valley Drive when he was struck by the minivan that was heading south on Valley. The driver of the minivan failed to stop. The identity of the driver is unknown at this time.

Police believe the Chevy Venture has damage to its passenger-side front-end and quarter panel, possible damage to its hood and a broken antenna.

Anyone who can identify the minivan involved in the fatal crash, or anyone with information on its driver, is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip via text message to LCTIPS (528477).
