UNM Gets Its Largest Gift Ever From Living Donors

By KRWG News

Albuquerque – A Connecticut couple with ties to New Mexico has given the University of New Mexico a $7.5 million gift that will be used to help athletics programs and the university's management school.

The university announced the gift from Sonnet and Ian McKinnon on Friday. Officials say it's the largest single gift ever made to UNM by living individuals.

Projects at the Anderson School of Management, University Arena and the UNM Tennis Complex will benefit. An endowment will also be established in honor of former UNM assistant tennis coach Loren Dils and current coach Alan Dils.

UNM President David Schmidly says he couldn't be happier.

The McKinnons both grew up in Albuquerque. The couple and their two children live in Connecticut and are part-time residents of Santa Fe.
