Udall Applauds Interior Secretary Nomination

By KRWG News

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Congressman Tom Udall on Wednesday applauded President-elect Barack Obama's decision to nominate U.S. Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado as Secretary of the Interior.

In a press release, Udall commented on the importance of the Interior Secretary's role. He says the position has the key responsibility of protecting America's natural inheritance and to honor the commitments the nation has made to Native American tribes.

Udall says Salazar is ideally suited to take the difficult and important job given his personal connection to the land and his detailed understanding of the needs and values of western states.

The Democratic Congressman's father, Stewart Udall held the Interior position from 1961 through 1969.
