Trial Of NM Man In Fake Police Killing To Begin

A trial involving a 30-year-old Carlsbad man linked to the death of a 50-year-old Artesia man is set to begin.

Matthew Sloan is scheduled to face a judge in Eddy County District Court on Tuesday for the 2012 murder of Tim Wallace.

According to prosecutors, Sloan and two other men posed as law enforcement officers and kicked open the door of Wallace's residence. Authorities say Wallace was then shot in the head.

Police believe the shooting was drug related.

Sloan was charged with an open count of murder, one count of armed robbery, one count of aggravated burglary and one count of tampering with evidence.
