Texas School Board To Consider Ending Water Fight

A South Texas school board is at work this weekend, considering offers by its city leaders to settle a water dispute that shut schools down for three days.

The La Villa Independent School District board planned to meet Saturday evening to evaluate two options approved by La Villa city commissioners earlier in the week. Details of the offers weren't released but were both to include a compromise rate below the $14 per person surcharge that set off a quarrel between the commission and school board in December 2012.

The city cut water to the district after students went on holiday vacation last month, saying the district owes about $58,000 on its water bill. Water was restored Wednesday evening after a state agency declined to intervene, and classes resumed Thursday.
