Truth or Consequences – New Mexico authorities say a woman from Truth or Consequences has died after she was attacked by four pit bull mix dogs while out for a walk.
Police say 48-year-old Margaret Salcedo was out walking Sunday afternoon when the dogs mauled her for several minutes.
A witness tells KOB-TV she heard the commotion and immediately called 911.
The police chief says an officer quickly arrived on scene and shot into the air to scare the dogs, and when one of the animals charged at the officer he shot and killed it. The other dogs then ran off.
Police say the dogs likely got loose from a nearby home. KOB reports the district attorney is deciding whether to file charges against the owners.
