Sunland Park Soldier Dies In Iraq

Sunland Park – The Department of Defense says a New Mexico solider has died in Iraq.

Pvt. Francisco J. Guardado-Ramirez of Sunland Park died Wednesday in Baghdad from injuries sustained in a noncombat incident.

The 21-year-old soldier was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, Ga.

Details about the fatal incident were not immediately available.

Guardado-Ramirez is the 49th New Mexico soldier, Marine or airman to be killed in Iraq. Another 10 New Mexico residents have died during military operations in Afghanistan.
