Still No Answers In Las Cruces Home Explosion

Las Cruces – Two years after an upscale home in Las Cruces was destroyed in an overnight explosion, the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department is refusing to disclose what caused the blast and the case remains unsolved.

The 4,500-square-foot home blew up early on Oct. 23, 2008 in the affluent Talavera neighborhood. The explosion destroyed a $350,000 motor coach and damaged 13 nearby homes.

No one was injured.

The home had been for sale for more than a year, listed for $723,000. The residents, a former federal Drug Enforcement Agency employee and his wife, were at their second home in Ruidoso.

Sheriff's investigator Bo Nevarez says county and state fire investigators have three more years to determine whether there is enough evidence to pursue arson charges.

He declined further comment.
