Roswell Faces Hefty Water, Sewer Rates

Roswell residents face a big increase in their water and sewer rates and a likelihood of more rate increases to come as officials say the city must catch up on costly work.

Rates are increasing 22 percent effectively immediately under an ordinance approved by the City Council on a 6-3 vote Thursday.

According to the Roswell Daily Record, the ordinance also will increase rates by approximately 7 percent in each of the next three years and then implement a cost-of-living inflation adjustment.

Wastewater Manager Art Torrez says Roswell needs to generate at least $30 million in the next 20 years to pay for necessary water projects and repairs.

Mayor Del Jurney says the city has been largely ignoring the situation and now must pay the price.
