Rest Stop Killing Conviction

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – One of three men charged in a New Mexico rest stop killing last year has been convicted.

Irvin Rodolfo Ramirez was found guilty Friday on felony murder, armed robbery and other charges.

A pre-sentencing report will be filed before Ramirez is sentenced in four to six weeks,

The Las Cruces Sun-News says Ramirez was tried as an adult. But because he was 16 at the time of the crime, prosecutors say the judge will have a great deal of discretion when sentencing.

Authorities say Ramirez and two other gang members allegedly shot 20-year-old Adam Espinoza at a rest stop in Anthony on Jan. 5, 2010.

Prosecutors say the trials for the two co-defendants 20-year-old Jorge Manual Murillo and 17-year-old Javier Orozco likely will be held sometime this fall.
