Remembering the Braceros - Personal Accounts

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra met with Raymond Cobos, historian and curator of the traveling art exhibit “Braceros – Melding History and Art” currently at the Branigan Cultural Center through October 3rd. The exhibit explores the history of agriculture, labor and migration during World War II through 1964 with the Bracero program, a worker permit program between the United States and Mexico.

Cobos will be a narrator at a special presentation, “Remembering the Braceros-Personal Accounts,” at the Branigan Cultural Center, 501 North Main Street on July 6th from 5 to 8pm during the first Friday Las Cruces Downtown Art Ramble. There will also be music from the 40’s and 50’s provided by Music Alegre Band, and actors portraying Bracero activities. The exhibit features a variety of media: oral and written history by Cobos; sculptures by Diana LeMarbe; paintings by Jeri Desrochers; and sculptural constructions by Richard Boutwell.
