SILVER CITY, N.M. – (AP) Grant County's Community Health Council says it has been notified by the New Mexico Department of Health that funding for health councils and many prevention programs throughout the state is being eliminated.
The council will lose $195,000 for community health, obesity, teen pregnancy, youth suicide and substance abuse prevention programs starting July 1.
The coordinator for the Grant County health council says the organization plans to implement some cost-cutting measures in its operations to absorb the loss of the state funds.
However, the council says its programs are safe because it has other funding sources that include non-state grants.
