Police Looking At Social Media In School Shooting

New Mexico State Police Chief Pete Kassetas says investigators are combing social media and looking into reports some students may have been warned against coming to school before a shooting at a Roswell middle school.

A family attorney says the suspected shooter was transferred to an Albuquerque psychiatric hospital following a hearing Tuesday. Attorney Robert Gorence said the family would release a statement Wednesday.

Police say a seventh-grade boy opened fire with a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun in the gym at Berrendo Middle School Tuesday morning.

An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, identified as Kendal Sanders, were wounded.

Police say social studies teacher John Masterson stepped in and talked the boy into dropping his weapon. Masterson then held him until authorities arrived.

Kassetas said a motive still is not known.
