Pass-In-Review Ceremony Thursday In Las Cruces

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A two-ship B-1 Bomber formation will grace the sky at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15, to kick off New Mexico State University ROTC's 109th annual President's Pass-in-Review ceremony on the Horseshoe Parade Grounds on the NMSU campus.

Pass-in-Review is a time-honored tradition that dates back to Alexander the Great. The intent was to parade the forces before the commander general to indicate the troop's readiness to go into battle.

NMSU President Barbara Couture will be this year's guest speaker and will preside over the event that will highlight both the Army and Air Force ROTC program's accomplishments over the past year.

"Today, our celebration pays tribute to the longevity of ROTC on this campus and the hard work of our cadets who chose to follow in the footsteps of the long line before them," Air Force ROTC Lt. Col. Stephen Groll said. "The idea that we have freedom in this nation to celebrate over a century of military presence and participation on this campus really makes you take stock of all the things that are truly remarkable about NMSU."

Following the ceremony on the Horseshoe, an awards ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Hardman Hall on campus. Cadets will be honored with local, regional and national awards and privately funded scholarship stipends.

Members of the community are invited to attend these events.

"We are proud of the cadets in our program," Groll said. "One of our core values is 'service before self.' What we do in the military is ultimately about service to others. We are accountable to the citizens and communities we represent, protect and serve. We want them to be part of this event so they know how much our service to them means and how proud they should be of the military leaders we are producing here at NMSU."
