A South Texas school board has not approved either offer its city leaders presented to settle a water dispute that closed schools for three days.
The La Villa Independent School District board met Saturday evening to evaluate two options that La Villa city commissioners approved. The Monitor reports that instead of approving either offer, the board authorized its attorney and superintendent to counter.
Either offer was to include a compromise rate below the $14 per person surcharge that sparked a quarrel between the commission and school board in December 2012.
The city cut the district's water after students went on holiday vacation last month, saying it owes about $58,000 on its water bill. Water was restored Wednesday after a state agency declined to intervene, and classes resumed Thursday.
