New Mexico – The New Mexico Department of Transportation is awarding more than $12.1 million in federal transit grants to projects statewide.
Most of the money $9.5 million will go to 24 rural public transit systems throughout New Mexico.
More than $1.3 million will be spent on buses and vans for 16 organizations that provide transportation for elderly and disabled residents.
The department's District 5 will receive more than $2.7 million for Los Alamos County, the North Central Regional Transit District, the Taos Chili Line and the Torrance County project office.
In addition, $750,000 goes to transit systems for job access and reverse commute transportation and more than $288,000 goes to programs that support public transportation services that go beyond what's required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
