NM Restructuring Task Force
By KRWG News
New Mexico – A legislative task force will look at whether New Mexico state government should be reorganized.
The task force holds its first meeting Wednesday in the Capitol, and is to hear testimony about past governmental restructuring efforts, including during the 1970s when Democratic Gov. Jerry Apodaca pushed to streamline agencies, boards and commissions.
A law was enacted earlier this year to establish the task force, which will consider whether state agencies and programs should be consolidated to save money and make government more efficient. The group will make recommendations to the governor and Legislature in December.
Members of the task force include legislators, Gov. Bill Richardson's top budget official and members of the public, including former state Health Secretary Michelle Lujan Grisham.
