NM Pueblo Receives Youth Funds

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Laguna Pueblo's education foundation will receive $148,600 in federal funds to involve pueblo middle school students in service projects.

The grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, Learn and Serve America program will involve 200 middle school students in eight-week summer projects that focus on retaining tribal history, language and culture.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, who announced the grant, says it will allow Laguna Pueblo to involve its young people in developing solutions to pressing problems that include improving health, fighting violence and restoring tribal culture.

He says the students will take an active role in helping their community while developing leadership and improving their academic skills.
