NIH Grant For Brain Research

By KRWG News

Albuquerque – The National Institutes for Health has awarded a $5.5 million, five-year grant to a University of New Mexico program.

UNM's Biomedical Research and Integrative Neuroimaging Center, known as the BRaIN Imaging Center, will use the grant to continue a research program through one of more than 60 U.S. Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence.

The BRaIN Imaging Center was established in 2001 with the support of another National Institutes for Health grant. The center houses various imaging technologies, including magnetic resonance imaging.

UNM researchers investigate stroke, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy and other neurological diseases at the molecular level.

The BRaIN Center is housed with the Mind Research Network on UNM's north campus in Albuquerque and will anchor the university's evolving Brain & Behavioral Illness Institute.
