New Mexico Still Losing Jobs

New Mexico's unemployment rate has dropped slightly, but state labor officials say November marked another month of negative job growth.  The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions says the rate of over-the-year job growth was negative 0.6 percent for November. That represents a loss of 4,800 jobs.

The current round of job losses started in June after 10 months of growth.

The professional and business services industry reported a loss of 3,900 jobs over the year, and the information industry reported a loss of 900 jobs. State and federal government sectors had a net loss of 4,800 jobs.

Officials say the leisure and hospitality industry was the biggest winner with a gain of 3,000 jobs since this time last year.

Labor officials say New Mexico's unemployment rate of 6.2 percent is an improvement over last November, when the rate was 7.1 percent.
