New Mexico School Massacre Avoided

Two Belen teens have been arrested in connection with what authorities are calling a planned school massacre.

Belen School Superintendent Ron Marquez told reporters Wednesday that schools officials thwarted a plot by several students to shoot other students at Belen Middle School on Friday.

Belen Police Chief Dan Robb said a 13-year- old and a 14-year-old have been arrested on misdemeanor charges of "interference with members of staff, public officials or the general public." He said the boys had recently been suspended but never brought weapons to school.

Officials say two other students have been suspended.

More than 1,500 staff members, parents and students were notified of the plot on Wednesday.
