New Mexico Providing Up To $3 Million In State Funds For Meat Plant Promising Up To 1295 Jobs

Today, Stampede Meat of Illinois announced it will expand to Sunland Park creating up to 1,295 new food processing and manufacturing jobs over the next five years. Here is a statement from the office of the New Mexico Governor:

The New Mexico Economic Development Department will invest up to $3 million in Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) funds in the expansion. The City of Sunland Park will act as the fiscal agent for the award. LEDA is New Mexico's closing fund, a tool that recruits new businesses to the state while helping those that are already here grow and thrive. Governor Martinez fought to grow the closing fund to $56 million, up from nearly zeroed out when she took office.

The company will invest more than $36 million in infrastructure and the renovation of the former Tyson plant in Sunland Park. New Mexico beat out Oklahoma, Texas and Iowa for the competitive expansion.

"It’s an honor to welcome Stampede and their large-scale job creation to New Mexico," said Governor Susana Martinez. “Since day one, we’ve been committed to making New Mexico business-friendly, and it’s paying off. We’ve cut taxes, slashed through red tape and strengthened our key economic development tools – and now companies like Stampede, Facebook, Safelite, and many more are expanding and creating jobs in New Mexico.”

Stampede was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Bridgeview, Illinois.

"This is great news for New Mexico and another example of what's possible when businesses know they're welcome here," said Economic Development Secretary Matt Geisel. "The Governor’s critical reforms and steadfast commitment to economic development are showing companies from around the country and the world that New Mexico is open for business."

"We are very pleased to invest in Sunland Park and are grateful to the Governor as well as the state, county and local officials who have helped us," said Brock Furlong, CEO of Stampede Meat. "We look forward to expanding our workforce to continue to provide quality products for our customers.”

”New Mexico’s business-friendly environment helps us successfully recruit companies to our state,” said President and CEO at New Mexico Partnership Tim Nitti. “The Governor's commitment to creating a healthier economy continues to deliver results by helping companies create new jobs in our communities.”

“The City of Sunland Park is proud to welcome Stampede Meat to one of New Mexico’s safest and fastest growing cities, “said Sunland Park Mayor Javier Perea. “This great news comes on the month that marks the City’s 35th Year Anniversary. We are eager to begin working with our new partners to ensure that their investment in our community results in a promising future for many years to come.”

"MVEDA is excited to welcome Stampede Meat to Sunland Park,” said Davin Lopez, President and CEO of MVEDA. “The size and scope of this project will create a positive economic impact for the city and region for years to come."

Since 2011, Governor Martinez has bolstered economic development tools, cut taxes and fees 57 times, and rolled back unnecessary regulations and red tape to create a business-friendly environment in New Mexico. Governor Martinez also established the Catalyst Fund, a $40 million partnership with the State Investment Council that focuses on helping homegrown New Mexico technology startups grow and thrive. As a result of these tools, reforms, and investments, New Mexico continues to recruit global and national companies like Facebook, Keter Plastic, Safelite and others, while helping homegrown businesses like Valley Cold Storage, Wholesome Valley Foods, T or C Brewing and others grow and thrive as well.
