Governor Susana Martinez has signed Senate Bill 9 to create a one-stop online portal for New Mexico businesses. The bill was sponsored by Senate Pro Tempore Mary Kay Papen (D- 38-Dona Ana) and co-sponsored by Representative Luciano Varela (D-48-Santa Fe). This legislation provides for the development of a free, user-friendly, searchable and public website that will allow businesses to simplify their online transactions with state agencies.
According to the bill, the one-stop business portal, which is predicted to be in full operation by July 2017, will provide the capability to:
- Access taxation information;
- Make taxation filings and payments;
- Access workers’ compensation information;
- Access information related to business licensing requirements and associated filing and renewal deadlines;
- Complete and submit applications for licenses, registrations and permits that are issued by state agencies and that are required for the transaction of business in New Mexico;
- Complete and file documents that state agencies require for the transaction of business in New Mexico;
- Make payments, including payments for application, license, registration, permit and filing fees; make payments made pursuant to the Workers’ Compensation Act that must be paid to state agencies;
- Provide electronic communications with customer service representatives during regular business hours regarding the use of the one-stop business portal and the services offered through the one-stop business portal;
- Access the sunshine portal
“I think that this one-stop business portal will be a tremendous help for current businesses operating in the state, as well as future businesses coming into New Mexico,” said Sen. Papen. “This will help our state in be more business-friendly, as well as attract, encourage and retain business. It will assure dealings with state agencies are taken care of efficiently and conveniently by creating one easy-to-use avenue. This step will lead to more job creation and economic stimulation, which we all know New Mexico is in need of and deserves.”
