New Mexico Allowing Free Wood Removal

By KRWG News

New Mexico – The State Land Office is allowing free woodcutting on part of the land it manages.

Wood permits are available for state trust lands near Datil (DAT-uhl) in southwestern New Mexico and near Villanueva in San Miguel County in northern New Mexico.

Permits and maps are available at the Land Office web site or its offices in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Moriarty and Socorro.

People are allowed to cut up to five cords of small diameter pinon and juniper, or dead and downed trees. The Land Office says trees marked with paint or flags are not to be cut.

Cutting of wood is allowed Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Dec. 12.
