New Border Crossing Bridge Should Be Complete By Mid-Summer

Mexican authorities say construction of a long-delayed border bridge located about 40 miles east of El Paso will be completed by mid-summer.

The project, originally scheduled to be done by June 2013, is almost finished on the U.S. side. The six-lane bridge abruptly finishes right above the middle of the Rio Grande.

Crews started working last week on the Mexican banks of the river to lay the foundations for the columns of the Tornillo-Guadalupe Port of Entry bridge.

The rest of the project, including customs and immigration inspection areas and a road to connect the complex to the highway, will likely take the Mexican government another six months after the bridge is completed.
