Music to Read "MIDNIGHT IN MEXICO"
August 9, 2013 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community with Mexico Bureau Chief of the Dallas Morning News, Alfredo Corchado, a noted Mexican American journalist for nearly twenty years, of which nearly ten years he has covered the drug violence in Mexico. He relied on his passion for music to inspire him as he wrote about the more than 100,000 people who have disappeared or been killed in the Mexican Drug War in his first book, “Midnight in Mexico: A Reporter’s Journey through a Country’s Descent into Darknes,” published by the Penguin Press in New York.
Corchado says the book is about three things: reconciliation, reinvention, and love. Torn between two countries, he honors both Mexico and the United States. He describes the perils that journalists face; and also recounts poignant memoirs of his life through music as he learned English. Some of his readers created a playlist of music mentioned in the book, “Songs to read by.” Excerpts of songs from the playlist can be heard in this interview. Corchado can be reached by email at email@example.com and on the website dallasnews.com.
