Martinez Halts State Car Purchases

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Gov. Susana Martinez has ordered a halt on the purchase of new government vehicles through next year to help save money.

Martinez said Wednesday that agencies also are to review the use of state-issued cell phones by workers to determine where cuts can be made.

The Republican governor made her announcement in response to cost-saving suggestions that her office had solicited from the public and governmental workers. Some tips are being studied by her administration, such as possibly eliminating post office boxes for governmental offices.

The moratorium on car purchases won't apply to law enforcement. Martinez said she was unaware of whether there were any pending car purchases, which would be blocked by her order.
