Man Fatally Shot In Farmington Officer

New Mexico State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by a Farmington police officer.

Farmington Police Lt. Taft Tracy says officers went to a home Tuesday after police received a report of a suspicious situation.

Tracy says the shooting occurred after an officer was confronted by an armed person.

No identities have been released.

The Farmington Times says the Farmington Police Department is conducting an internal investigation to determine whether the officer followed protocol, and whether firing his weapon was necessary.
