Man Charged With Assaulting Girlfriend

An Anthony, N.M., man suspected of assaulting his girlfriend and holding the woman against her will was arrested Saturday morning.

Sergio Rojas-Martinez, 35, of 805 Clark road in Anthony, is charged with one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment.

Shortly before midnight on Friday, April 18, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to 5300 Stern Drive where Martinez is said to have threatened his 34-year-old girlfriend with a large kitchen knife.

Las Cruces Police Detectives learned that an argument between Martinez and the woman quickly escalated. Martinez is alleged to have slapped the woman’s face several times and prevented her from leaving the residence.

Martinez is then alleged to have armed himself with a kitchen knife, and threatened to kill his girlfriend and then himself.

Martinez left the residence prior to police arriving on scene. The woman had visible signs of bruising to her face but was otherwise OK.

Martinez was arrested on a warrant Saturday morning by deputies from the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $5,000.
