According to state statute and LCPS policy, the board has 45 days from the date of the resignation to appoint a replacement, who will serve out the remainder of Shoop's term, which expires February 28, 2013. That means the board member must be appointed by March 17, 2011.

Complete information about applying for the District 2 position has been placed on the LCPS website, www.lcps.k12.nm.us. Look for the dark blue "New LCPS Board of Education Member, District 2" banner at the top of the home page.

Anyone wishing to apply for the District 2 position should fill out the form and questionnaire on the website and submit it to LCPS Chief of Staff Karen Robles at krobles@lcps.k12.nm.us. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, February 23.
