Las Cruces Police Recruiting-Pay After One Year $42,700

The Las Cruces Police Department is now accepting applications for its 43rd training academy that is tentatively set to being in September 2013.

Applications for the 43rd training academy need to be received by the City of Las Cruces no later than May 12. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to submit their application well in advance of the closing date.

The starting salary for cadets, those who are accepted into the academy, is $15.50 per hour. Upon graduation from the 20-week academy, police officer trainees hired by LCPD earn $17.83 per hour and are eligible for a $3,000 retention bonus. Officer trainees who successfully complete their one-year probationary status earn a salary of $20.56 per hour, or approximately $42,700 annually.

The Las Cruces Police Department’s 21-week academy provides more than 1,000 hours of law enforcement education and training. The bulk of the academy – around 75 percent of it – is classroom instruction while the remaining 25 percent is field training in and around Las Cruces.

Applicants are required to be U.S. citizens, at least 19 years old when the academy begins, and have at least a high school diploma and no felony convictions. Additional requirements can be seen on the Las Cruces Police Department’s website.

Applications and additional information are available online at www.CLCPD.com. For more information on the Las Cruces Police Department academy call (575) 541-2766.
