Las Cruces Police Arrest California Felon

Las Cruces – A California parolee involved in a 2005 murder was found Thursday evening in a Las Cruces liquor establishment and armed with a loaded handgun.

Zachariah I. Ramirez, 20, of Anaheim, Calif., is charged with being a fugitive from justice, carrying a deadly weapon in a liquor establishment, possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal possession of a deadly weapon.

Las Cruces Police received information that Ramirez may be in town and was possibly at Buffalo Wild Wings at 2750 Mall Dr. Officers responded and located Ramirez in the bar area of the establishment. Ramirez was escorted outside and disclosed to officers that he was in possession of a firearm.

Officers found the loaded .38 caliber handgun concealed in the waistband of Ramirez's pants.

Ramirez was a juvenile when he was involved in a 2005 murder in Santa Ana, Calif. Ramirez was subsequently convicted of the crime and sentenced as an adult.

Ramirez was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center and is being held without bond pending extradition to California.
