Las Cruces Offered Historic Home

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The city of Las Cruces is being offered ownership of a home that has been the federal and state historic registries for almost 35 years.

Amador Bancshares Inc., which owns Citizens Bank, offered the 140-plus-year-old Armijo-Gallagher house to the city in a letter to City Manager Terrence Moore.

The City Council will decide whether to accept the two-story home, which has been vacant since April.

Moore says city officials might contact a nonprofit historical preservation organization to determine interest in preserving the building.

Historic preservationists have said it might be Las Cruces' most endangered historic property.

Large cracks are visible on the building's west side and some shutters and trimmings are falling off.
